Are You Ready For The 13th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival This Month? Find Out More Here!

For about a week long worth of events, Brooklyn Bodega presents The 13th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival from July 10th to 16th. Founded in 2005, every year they aim to showcase the positivity of Hip-Hop culture by providing a variety of culture based educational and entertainment events, and live performances.

Here is a list of some of the events that will occur this year:

  • July 10th- Told It First Hand with Rakim. Moderated by Wes Jackson; 7pm to 9pm
    • The live interview series hosted by Festival Founder and Executive Director Wes Jackson will be blessed by the god MC himself, Rakim. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to listen, learn and build with arguably the greatest MC of all time as he celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the seminal album, “Paid In Full”.
  • July 11th- Get Paid To Be Yourself
    • The Forbes column and career workshop created by Julian Mitchell will have a live conversation with a cultural influencer who mastered the skill set of monetizing their value by taking their talent and turning them into sustainable income.
  • July 12th- The Hip-Hop Institute; 10am to 8pm and The Combat Jack Show Live
    • As part of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, we are producing The Hip-Hop Institute at Medgar Evers College. The theme of the day/conference is “Speak The Truth”.  We will be discussing issues of empowerment, social justice, health & wellness, as well as entrepreneurship. The programming consists of lectures, panels, and various workshops.  Lecturers/Panelists to be announced.
    • The original #1 Hip-Hop podcast, the Combat Jack Show with Reggie Ose aka Combat Jack will be live at a location to be announced. The man who brought the podcast game to Hip-Hop, Reggie Ose aka Combat Jack, will bring his in-depth conversations about music, news, culture & race to The Festival.
  • July 13th- The Dummy Clap Film Festival; 10am to 4pm
    • Join in on the celebration of Hip-Hop as told through the moving image. Screenings of old school films, documentaries, and shorts.  As well as Masters Classes from leading filmmakers both indie and major. Movies and notable hosts to be announced.

  • July 14th- Juice Hip-Hop Exhibition; 6pm to 11pm
    • A night dedicated to showcasing all aspects of the culture.  DJ showcases, Dance battles, sneaker exhibit, live art and well as original art installations.
      Featuring: Kerim The DJ, Sickamore, DJ Midnite, The Bishop Gallery, and more.
  • July 15th- The Finale Concert
    • Headlining this year’s Festival is DMX. The Yonkers MC shines as one of the most honest artists to put words to wax.  Joining DMX are fellow Ruff Ryders The LOX.  Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch united over 20 years ago to form one of Hip-Hop’s most enduring groups. Also joining the bill is singer/song-writer/actor, renaissance man, Staten Island’s own Mack Wilds. Niambi Sala and Thandiwe aka OSHUN will also be blessing that Main stage on July 15th.  Legendary DJ duo Stretch and Bobbito, famed radio personalities whose influential radio show defined an era of Hip-Hop will be DJing next door in St. Ann’s Warehouse. They will all be joined by Festival house DJ, Rob Swift, hosts Uncle Ralph McDaniels and Torae and many more Finale Concert artists to be announced. Featuring: DMX, The Lox, Stretch & Bobbito, Mack Wilds, Oshun, DJ Rob Swift, and more Hosted by Uncle Ralph McDaniels and Torae.
