As a relaxing outlet in between studying and clinical rotation , soon to be nurse Lindsey Morton turned to knitting and crochet; with great practice she’s become an expert. As a current employee at The Bookmark Shoppe in Bay Ridge, she took classes that were offered to adults and children learning the skill. Making two to three hats a day, she became a knitting machine constantly gifting hats to family and friends who were so impressed and that they convinced her to start selling her creations.
She decided to call her business Knits and Pieces. With each hat, it is a place for her to take bits and pieces of people’s personalities to create an accessory that matched their flare. She finds it important to express one’s personality through their sense of style. “Embracing your own unique style is liberating and exciting”, so she allows her customers to do this through her knitting as it is up to them to choose what colors (whether its 1 or 4) they want to incorporate into their pieces. Each piece is individually created so that no other hat can be found like it! The two types of yarn she enjoys using are a wool blend, which is 80% acrylic and 20% wool, and a softer yarn which is about 100% acrylic for anyone with a wool allergy. The yarns are thick which allow her to work fast and make a hat in under 3 hours. The hats are priced at $25 each and she currently accepts payments through Venmo. Custom hats can be ordered via email Knitsxpieces@gmail.com or can be directly messaged through Instagram by searching the user name “KnitsxPieces” where you can see many of her creations displayed through photos. As of now hats are the only pieces available but with great hopes of furthering her skill she’ll expand her inventory as time goes on!
