On Friday, April 30th I attended yet another eventful night at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. Cast members from different seasons of MTV Nick Cannon’s Wild N’ Out and MTV’2 Joking Off with DeRay Davis were the acts of the night and needless to say, had me in tears.
First comedian to hit the stage goes by the name Burpie. His set consists of jokes that emphasize the differences in the array of food when attending a cookout hosted by Caucasian and African American people. In addition to that, he shares a bit of his own life in talking about his family’s acceptance of his homosexual brother.
Second comedian, BDaht, is a radio personality for 102 Jamz in North Carolina. Right out of the gate BDaht, in an attempt to rile up the audience says “if you have syphilis, be quiet…” He opens up to the audience and comes clean about his flaws in being “childish” at times, and discusses the life lessons he’s already begun to teach his son Isaiah.
Newest talent of the night, 5ifty, approaches the stage in the humblest way. It seems as if his set revolves around real life experiences that he thinks his young audience can relate to. He refers to men carrying children (sperm) the same as women, thus demanding equality among the sexes, and he shares how welfare offices have become the hottest spot to pick up women.
Closing act of the night, Darren Brand, really relates to the audience in his many references to graduating, cheating on tests, sexual acts while living with a roommate, etc. He even refers to the need for cell phone use while using the restroom. He is very animated and so down-to-earth, you can not help but to chuckle aloud.
