Music Monday: Meet Young Marco

Tha. L Spot recently chatted with young superstar on the rise, Young Marco. Born and raised in College Park, Atlanta, the rapper, singer, and songwriter is truly a triple threat in the music game. Be sure to check out the full interview below.

When did you first get involved with music and why?

At the age of 14, I first got involved in music. I used to be all about football but then I finally let football go and started pursuing my music.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe it as an emotional rollercoaster. I can say that there is not one specific thing throughout the entire album but many different things. My style of music is pretty weird. If you can, imagine going to your high school prom and not wearing the traditional gown and wearing what you want to wear instead. My music is mainly about love and just having fun. If I could compare my music to any other artist it would be Frank Ocean.

What is the inspiration behind your music?

The inspiration behind my music would have to be the people around me and just the things I experience, not what I went through but most of the stories that you see around me.

Tell me a little bit about your album Tell the World. What is the concept behind it?

The concept was so simple to come up with. I just wanted to tell the world about me. I worked with Eric Cire on the album and working with him was amazing. The main focus was to go in there and talk about things I experience. Most of the things were written down in my phone so I just recorded from my phone. The main goal was to write about things I was going through now.

Who are some artists you are currently listening to?

Looking at my playlist now, I’m currently listening to Drake’s album Nothing Was The Same, Ed Sheeran’s Multiply, Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange, J Cole’s new album, Jessie J’s new album, and The Passengers.

Who are some artists you grew up listening to?

Growing up I listened to artists such as Michael Jackson, J. Holiday, and Bow Wow.

Who are some artists you would want to work with?

If I could I would love to work with Ed Sherran, Drake, The Passengers and Jessie J.

What was the first album you ever purchased?

Taylor Swift, the red album, I was in love with Taylor Swift back then. I just love her music.

What was your best experience so far in the music business?

My best experience would have to be when I performed at the Seshat showcase in Atlanta. I remember we had a showcase and it was my first time performing with a band. It was basically the first time I was able to let go and just be myself.

What has been your worst experience?

One time I did a show a while back; I think it was at a school. I remember there was nowhere for my DJ to plug in the sound system. We had a little radio on a chair and my dad had to put in my CD and I had to sing over it. The sound was just horrible. Yeah, that had to be my worse experience.

What do you have planned for the year of 2015?

As for 2015, my plan is to tour the world with my guitar, perform for a crowd of a million people, keep my fans satisfied, and to basically remain humble.
