Hailing from Plainfield, New Jersey, and currently representing Silver Spring, Maryland, KNGRCHRD (King Richard), born Richard Jones, is a 19-year-old singer and rapper, whose determination and constant evolving practically guarantees his climb to the top.
KNGRCHRD has a rich background in theatre and has had a love for all forms of art such as theatre, dance, painting and drawing as well as English and writing, for as long as he can remember. However, if he can manage to make a career out of his music, that is without a doubt the plan.
The term he uses to describe his artistic style is Trip Hop, which he explained is “trippy hip hop alternative music”. Though he does constantly listen to artist such as Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake and Miguel, he really pulls inspiration from older artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and 2 Pac.
His other main source of inspiration and what motivated him to keep creating are his listeners.
“Every single time I see someone who genuinely enjoys it or someone who I’ve seen enjoyed it in the past and is continuing to enjoy, that’s always something that just keeps me inspired and motivated,” said KNGRCHRD.
He usually writes and produces all of his own music. Every song except for one out of his several albums, mix tapes and singles he has released over the years. He is currently working on an album that he hopes to release before 2014 comes to an end that he’s been putting off for a year and a half now trying to get up to the high standard he’s set for himself.
“I have a lot songs recorded that are headed towards it, like 60 tracks that I’ve worked on and laid vocals down on and completed some,” says KNGRCHRD.
Not including mix tapes this will be album number three for him, his first release since he changed his stage name to KNGRCHRD. His key piece of advice regarding his upcoming project? Don’t expect anything.
“If you listen to anything I’ve ever put out and go into this album expecting anything, you’re probably going to be really surprised,” KNGRCHRD explained. “It’s different from anything I’ve ever done, and I can say that wholeheartedly.”
Other than the album, KNGRCHRD hopes to get back to performing on the stage soon by going on tour and to branch out more into his acting side this year.
